Three New Anchoring Features in the Lowrance 25.2 Update

If you haven’t downloaded this firmware yet, make sure to install it on your fishfinder after reading this review — it will help you catch more fish.

Anchor at Distance

Let’s say you have a saved waypoint. The new feature allows you to anchor not directly on the waypoint, but at a specific distance from it.

How it works:

  • select the waypoint (for example, Waypoint 009);
  • set the distance, for example 75 feet;
  • the trolling motor will automatically bring the boat and stop it at that exact position.

Why is this useful?
Especially in summer, when fish hold on drop-offs, snags, and rocky ridges. This feature allows you to anchor at the right casting distance — whether you’re using jigs or crankbaits.

Orbit — Move Around a Point in a Circle

The second new feature is circling a point.

How it works:

  • select a waypoint on the map;
  • set the radius, for example 20 feet;
  • choose the direction: clockwise or counterclockwise;
  • activate autopilot.

The trolling motor will move the boat in a circle around the waypoint, maintaining the set distance. This is convenient when fishing for fish that are concentrated in a limited area of bottom structure.

Depth Routing — Navigation by Depth

The third feature is depth-based routing.

Now you can set a depth range, for example:

  • minimum — 9 feet,
  • maximum — 12 feet.

The fishfinder will build a route along the shoreline or contour so that the boat always stays within this depth range.

Why is this useful?
Suppose in summer the fish are holding at depths of 25–35 feet. By setting this range, you can follow that contour, make accurate casts, and always keep your lure in the strike zone.

Conclusion

The Lowrance 25.2 update is not just about the ActiveTarget improvements everyone is talking about. In fact, the new anchoring and routing functions make the firmware especially valuable for practical fishing.

  • Anchor at Distance — anchor at the right distance from a waypoint.
  • Orbit — circle around a waypoint.
  • Depth Routing — stay on course within a set depth range.

These features will help you save time on the water and catch more fish.
